The XP-1 is a proof of concept, but Hyperion intends to bring it into production. The corporation stated that production will begin in the United States as early as 2022 and that the automobile will be limited to 300 units. Work on the XP-1 began in 2016, and Hyperion has been developing the technology that power it for over a decade.
