Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the PureSpeed roadster, the first car in its Mythos series, limited to just 250 units. Based on the latest SL, PureSpeed incorporates design cues from the AMG One and Formula 1, including halo rollover protection. It transforms the 2024 SL into a two-seat speedster, featuring an aero screen, a structural spine, and specially designed helmets.
The PureSpeed boasts a distinct shark-like front end with a large three-pointed star replacing the traditional AMG grille. Its design is influenced by Mercedes’ historical racing successes, such as the 1924 Targa Florio car’s red paint and number, and the iconic features of the Moss-driven 300 SLR.
Aiming to replicate the success in the bespoke car market, the PureSpeed uses the SL63’s V8 engine for outstanding performance. It debuted ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix to target exclusive collectors and affirm Mercedes’ presence in the luxury car segment. This low-volume, high-end special car line is expected to maintain the donor car’s engines, appealing to high-end car enthusiasts. Specific engine details remain secretive, enhancing its allure to discerning buyers.
