The 2025 Mazda CX-70 is an upscale two-row SUV designed to fill the gap between compact and full-size crossovers. It borrows its architecture from the three-row CX-90 but removes the third row for more cargo space, resulting in a spacious interior with luxurious finishes that rival premium brands like Lexus and BMW.
Under the hood, the CX-70 offers three powertrain options: a 3.3-liter turbocharged inline-six engine in both 280-hp and 340-hp configurations, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version that combines a 2.5-liter engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined 323 hp. The PHEV can drive up to 26 miles on electric power alone and offers a smooth, albeit slightly less refined, driving experience compared to its gasoline counterparts.
Driving dynamics are a strong suit for the CX-70, with responsive steering and engaging handling that make it enjoyable on twisty roads. However, its performance off-road is less impressive due to a firm suspension and standard on-road tires, making it more suited to urban adventures than rugged terrains.
Inside, the CX-70 impresses with high-quality materials and a spacious cabin. Its cargo area is particularly versatile, with nearly 76 cubic feet of space when the rear seats are folded down, making it one of the most capacious in its class.
