The 2024 BMW i5 M60 is not designed to be an electric version of the M5, nor is it attempting to be. Instead, the M60 offers an electric reinterpretation of the M550i concept: a combination of immense power, luxurious features, and supreme comfort, with a touch of athleticism. But how well does the 5 Series formula translate into an electric vehicle? If you can overlook the M60’s relatively low range and its rather high tested price of $93,895 (with a base price of $84,000), it proves to be an exceptional machine.

Spec Sheet:

  • Dual motor xDrive
  • 84.3kWh battery pack
  • 593 horsepower and 586 lb-ft of torque (605 lb-ft of torque in Boost mode)
  • 0-60 MPH in 3.3 – 3.5 seconds
  • EPA Estimated range of 256 miles
  • 10-80% charge in 30 minutes
  • 205kW charging speeds
  • Approximately 5,100 pounds

Highs:

  • Sharp handling, highly responsive throttle, impressive technology, ambient light integration, and refined aesthetics.
  • Impeccable build quality.
  • World-class Bowers & Wilkins 17-speaker surround sound system.

Lows:

  • The Black M Veganza Alcantara material feels good and looks unique, but charging $3,000 extra for leather seems excessive.
  • The range is lower than average for its class, and the constant temptation to experience Hans Zimmer’s iconic sounds and use Boost mode can deplete the battery quickly.
  • Even in the lowest setting, the seats feel a bit too high for a BMW, likely due to the battery being positioned under the floor.
