The 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale is the brand’s answer to a BMW X1 or Lexus UX. This is the only PHEV in the segment if you exclude the mechanically similar Dodge Hornet. This means, a 1.3L turbo 4-cylinder paired with a 90 kW rear electric motor and standard eAWD, and a 6-speed AT. However, the Alfa makes 285 HP and 347 lb-ft of torque, which is down about 3 HP and 36 lb-ft compared to the Hornet R/T. The 15.5 kWh battery pack allows for more than 30 miles of EV-only range. All Tonale’s come standard with the fully digital 12.3” cluster and a 10.25” touch screen running UConnect5. Pricing begins at $42,995, which is only about $1500 more than its Dodge counterpart. Seems like the Alfa may be the better deal.
